Sarawak-based company PP Telecommunication Sdn Bhd (PPTEL)’s flagship data centre – PPTEL DC @Santubong 1 - was awarded Uptime Institute’s Tier-IV Certification for Design on 20 October 2021.

PPTEL DC @Santubong 1 is the first data centre in Malaysia to be awarded the Tier-IV Design Certification. The Tier-IV rating means that the design of PPTEL’s Data Centre meets the highest standards for Infrastructure (Topology) functionality and capacity as demonstrated on their design documents. This ensures the requisite sustainable business-critical infrastructure of the facility to maximise efficiency and long-term robust performance.

According to the PPTEL’s Board of Directors, “This is a historical moment, for both Sarawak and Malaysia. With this Design Certification, our Data Centre is now placed on the Global Data Centre map, amongst the elite Data Centre Global operators. We are committed to provide the highest level of service availability to meet the requirements of our regional mission-critical customers. PPTEL DC @Santubong 1 is powered by the abundance of renewal energy, sourced from our state-owned power company – Sarawak Energy Berhad, making it one of the most environmentally-friendly-powered data centres in the region. This joint-effort is made possible with our strategic partner – SASA Partners Pte Ltd (SASA).”

This Tier-IV Data Centre is directly connected to the regional telco hub of Singapore via Batam, using PPTEL’s high capacity, low-latency Batam Sarawak Internet Cable System (BaSICS). Coupled with an International cross-border terrestrial fiber network, PPTEL is able to serve any cities in Borneo or Indonesia in collaboration with their strategic partners.

This facility located at Santubong, Kuching will be commercially ready for service by Q1, 2022.
